A good robot vacuum today maps your home with LiDAR, avoids socks and cables, empties itself and — if you want — mops and washes its own mops. The hard part is matching one to your home: the height under your furniture, the thresholds it has to climb and how much of your floor is carpet.

Robots with a LiDAR turret are usually 3.7–4.1 in tall. If your sofa or bed is lower, look at slim models (3.1–3.2 in) or accept that it won't clean underneath.
LiDAR maps the room but doesn't see socks or cables. Structured light or an AI camera is what stops a robot from eating cords and pet messes.
A self-emptying dock means you change a bag every one to four months. An all-in-one dock also washes and dries the mops, which is what makes mopping truly hands-free.
If you have rugs, choose a robot whose mop lifts 10 mm or more, detaches at the dock, or uses a roller that lifts. Otherwise you'll set no-mop zones by hand.
Dreame and MOVA offer 3 years; Roborock and iRobot 1 year. Robots sold by Amazon directly are the easiest to return.
For most homes, yes: daily runs keep dust and pet hair under control far better than a weekly manual vacuum. You'll still want a stick or upright vacuum for stairs and deep carpet cleaning.
Around $200–$300 gets LiDAR mapping and a self-emptying dock. Around $450–$550 adds obstacle avoidance and a dock that washes and dries mops. Above $1,000 you're mostly paying for a slimmer body and the best sensors.
Up to a point. Brands measure it differently and anything above about 10,000 Pa is plenty for hard floors. Brush design and anti-tangle features matter as much for pet hair and carpets.
